TIM faculty member Prof. Mika Westerlund and his work on living labs were featured in Carleton's ResearchWorks. The living labs initiative is part of an effort of Carleton University's continuing effort to makes its research relevant to the wider community.

Westerlund's interest is in open and user innovation with particular focus on living labs. The university benefits from the research as living labs allow it to forge closer ties with the community and organizations in the region.

Carleton's living lab will be the first living lab in Canada. Setting up a living lab is part of Carleton's strategic mandate agreement released in Oct 2012.

“The TIM program is the perfect place for studying and teaching them, because of its focus on entrepreneurship, and its strengths in studying and teaching innovative business models and ecosystems based on open-source software.”
