No Better Time to Be an Entrepreneur

The Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards in Ottawa announced an $8 million injection from FedDev Ontario for new programming and technology at the first entrepreneurship hub of its kind in Ottawa.

Everything is on track for the opening of the city’s Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards, said Saad Bashir, the city’s director of economic development and Innovation.

The city is expected to match the $15 million in provincial funds dedicated to the project, and is hoping to receive news of federal funding for the incubation hub soon. Start-up businesses that can't afford to lease space are expected to take advantage of the space.

After striking a deal with a major Canadian property manager, a fledgling Ottawa startup could soon have its digital directory technology installed at shopping centres across the country – and is already looking at expanding into foreign markets, too.

Technology companies can spark economic growth and community development. That’s certainly the case in Ottawa, where the dynamic tech sector is a cornerstone of the economy.

And it’s starting to happen in northern Israel’s Galilee region, where Arab-Israeli entrepreneurs are creating companies, attracting investors, and sowing the seeds of cross-cultural and international collaboration.

Lead To Win, a Carleton-led ecosystem, has been named one of the top 10 academic business incubators in North America by UBI Global.

The announcement was made Tuesday in Toronto at an awards ceremony attended by members of the Lead To Win Council that included founder Tony Bailetti, director of the Technology Innovation Management (TIM) program; Steven Muegge of the Sprott School of Business; Emily Byron of the TIM program; Rowland Few from the Lead To Win Sales Desk; and Ludovico Prattico, TIM alumnus and manager of the opportunity review boards.

Carleton University’s Technology Innovation Management program launches Lead To Win Cyber (LTW Cyber).  LTW Cyber is an innovation hub for technology ventures that have agreed to collaborate for the purpose of addressing the needs of the global market for cybersecurity. Each technology venture will pursue its own opportunities to grow while seeking collaborative opportunities with the other ventures that are part of LTW Cyber.
